Registered Nurse / Recovery Room Pediatrics

Job Summary

Registered Nurse (RN), Recovery Room Pediatrics, Norfolk, VA. The position provides post-anesthesia care for pediatric patients across a broad range of short procedures and complex surgical cases. Responsibilities include airway management, patient assessment, medication administration, monitoring, discharge teaching, and collaboration with anesthesia and surgical teams.

Job Details

• Schedule: Day shifts consisting of 10-hour shifts, with a minimum of 40 hours per week. Start times typically fluctuate between 7:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. Monday through Friday. Thursday call is required, with possible call coverage for nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Required Qualifications: Direct pediatric Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) experience and a current flu vaccination during flu season.
• Additional Information:
  • Provides care for pediatric patients undergoing a wide range of short procedures and complex surgical cases.
  • Performs airway management, modified Aldrete scoring, patient assessment, vital-sign monitoring, medication administration, and discharge teaching.
  • Manages Phase 1 recovery with one-to-one patient monitoring every 15 minutes.
  • Supports Phase 2 recovery with one-to-one care or care for up to four patients in stepdown, with monitoring at least every hour.
  • Experience with arterial lines, tracheostomies, home ventilators, Precedex infusions, chest tubes, drains, and urinary catheters is relevant to the role.
  • Completes a one-day orientation in the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), including stepdown.
  • Collaborates with anesthesiologists regarding medication orders, patient sign-outs, and urgent situations, and with surgeons regarding discharge orders, instructions, wound concerns, and radiology orders.
