Job Summary:
Gastroenterology Laboratory Technician in San Luis Obispo, California. This role involves working in the gastroenterology (GI) laboratory, under the supervision of registered nurses, assisting gastroenterologists with various GI procedures, and providing care for adult and geriatric patients. The position offers an opportunity to contribute to patient care in a facility that features a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and county designated trauma center.
Job Details:
- Position Description: Works in the gastroenterology (GI) lab, under the direction of registered nurses. Assists gastroenterologists with various GI procedures and related work, as required. Responsible for the care of adult and geriatric patients. This position is represented by SEIU.
- Required Qualifications: High School Education/GED; Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an approved vendor per organization policy; 2 or more years of relevant experience; located in the specified area; schedule includes rotating shift, 8-hour shifts, with a minimum of 40 hours per week.
- Essential Functions: Demonstrates and practices competencies related to endoscopic procedures, including proper disinfection, care, and handling of endoscopes. Assists physicians with procedures, endoscopy room set-up and cleaning, specimen collection, and sterilization supervision. Maintains quality control of sterilization and terminal cleaning processes, including biological monitoring. Follows universal precautions and hazardous materials management principles. Cleans, tests, processes, and stores endoscopes and clinical equipment according to established policies. Demonstrates competence in scope washing, disinfecting, storing, and quality testing. Transports patients between departments. Provides direct care to endoscopy patients in collaboration with registered nurses. Maintains a positive attitude to support customer service. Inventories supplies and communicates needs to inventory clerks. Collects data for performance improvement. Performs other related duties as assigned, with a focus on clinical procedures and safety protocols.
