Patient Care Assistant / Patient Care Tech

Job Summary
The Patient Care Technician is located in a Behavioral Health unit specializing in child and adolescent care. This role involves providing direct patient care and clinical support under the supervision of registered nurses. The technician promotes safety, engages patients in therapeutic activities, and assists children and adolescents with their daily needs during hospitalization. Clinical tasks such as phlebotomy, EKGs, and point-of-care testing are also performed as part of a trauma-informed, developmentally sensitive model of care.

Job Details

• Education, Training, & Experience Required: High School Diploma or GED, MAB (Mental health Associate Basic) or CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) certification (one required), minimum of 2 years of experience in nursing or psychiatric/behavioral healthcare in a high-volume, intensive care environment, graduate of a New York State-certified Patient Care Technician (PCT) program, current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification, competency in performing vital signs, phlebotomy, EKG, and blood glucose monitoring, ability to engage with children and adolescents in a trauma-informed, developmentally appropriate manner.
• Schedule: Days shift, 8 hours per day, minimum of 40 hours per week.
• Additional Information: Candidates must be graduates of a State Certified PCT program and capable of performing clinical tasks such as vital signs and blood glucose monitoring. Completion of a recognized training program in restraints and seclusion, like CPI, is required.
