Mental Health Technician / Pediatric Psychology

Job Summary:
Pediatric Psychology is seeking a qualified healthcare professional for a night shift position at a facility located in Bangor, Maine. This role involves providing inpatient mental health care for adolescents and pediatric patients in a specialized acute inpatient unit. The candidate will support a diverse patient population with various diagnoses, including autism, mood disorders, and trauma-related conditions, while working within a multidisciplinary team in a fast-paced environment.

Job Details:

• Schedule: 12-hour night shifts, from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM, with a minimum of 48 hours per week.
• Required Qualifications: Valid Maine Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license; Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; at least 1 year of inpatient psychiatric experience, preferably with adolescents or pediatric patients; experience working with autistic or behavioral health patients; comfortable with redirection, de-escalation, assisting with activities of daily living, rounding every 7.5 minutes, acting as a 1:1 sitter, and participating in physical holds using least restrictive measures.
• Preferred Qualifications: Experience working with adolescent-pediatric patients, including those with autism, self-mutilation, harm, depression, suicidal ideation, anxiety, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, gender dysphoria, trauma, and sexual trauma; familiarity with EMR systems such as Cerner; ability to float to the adult unit if needed.
• Additional Information: Orientation begins on the first Monday of the first week, with the second week dedicated to integrating into regular shifts. The unit utilizes a modified self-scheduling approach for shifts, with a predetermined weekend rotation. This role involves participating in physical interventions, rounding, and assisting with patient care activities, with opportunities to use supporting equipment and technology such as seclusion rooms and restraint chairs. The facility operates with a supportive management team open to addressing concerns and fostering a collaborative work environment.
• Unit Details: The adult and pediatric inpatient units accommodate patients aged 5-18 with various mental health diagnoses. Staff include Psych Technicians, Nurse Practitioners, Psychiatrists, Occupational Therapists, and security personnel. The team responds collectively to patient escalations, and the facility maintains a policy of not responding to patient escalations directly from security personnel.
• Schedule Cycle: The traveler will participate in rotating shifts, including every other weekend, with no on-call responsibilities. Holidays are worked in rotation.
• Other Notes: Scrub attire should be solid, professional colors. Parking is free. The program emphasizes a supportive and flexible team culture dedicated to patient-centered care.
