Job Summary
The Operating Room First Assist Congenital Cardiac Nurse (RNFA) is a highly specialized registered nurse providing surgical first-assist support for congenital cardiac procedures. This position involves collaborating closely with the surgical team to deliver expert patient care across pediatric and adult populations with congenital heart defects. The RNFA operates under the supervision of the surgeon, utilizing advanced surgical techniques to ensure optimal surgical outcomes.

Job Details

  • Location: South Portland, Maine
  • Schedule: Days, 12 hours shifts, minimum 36 hours per week
  • Required Qualifications: Current registered nurse (RN) licensure in Maine; completion of an accredited RNFA program; CNOR certification (preferred); Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications; Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS); 3-5 years of operating room experience with at least 1-2 years in cardiac surgery; travel experience preferred.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Expertise in congenital cardiac surgery; proficiency in first-assist techniques and sterile field management; strong critical thinking and decision-making skills; excellent interpersonal and communication skills; commitment to patient-centered care and clinical excellence.
  • Additional Information: The nurse will serve as the surgical first assist during congenital cardiac surgeries, including tissue handling, wound closure, and hemostasis. Responsibilities also include preoperative assessment, postoperative wound management, and participating in multidisciplinary rounds. Mentorship of nursing staff on congenital cardiac procedures is also expected.
