Job Summary
Step Down Unit Registered Nurse (RN) Night shift located in an acute care facility. This role involves providing quality patient care on a specialized step down unit, with a focus on patients recovering from more acute phases requiring close monitoring. The position supports a dynamic clinical environment with a variety of patient diagnoses and collaborative team collaboration.
Job Details
- Schedule: 12-hour night shifts, with a minimum of 36 hours per week, starting on 10/05/2026 and ending on 01/04/2027.
- Required Qualifications: Valid nursing license; ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) and BLS (Basic Life Support) certifications; at least 2 years of relevant nursing experience; familiarity with electronic charting systems (EPIC); location within a 50-mile radius rule.
- Common diagnoses/types of patients: CHF (Congestive Heart Failure), cardiac catheterization, chest pain, pneumonia, chronic renal disease, COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease), orthopedic, and oncology patients.
- Experience: All travelers must pass a cardiac rhythm exam, and should have the necessary skills to interpret strips; previous experience with step down or telemetry units preferred but not required.
- Staff and operational details:
- Charge nurses and nurse supervisors are present 24/7; night charge nurses take patient assignments.
- Use of CNAs or techs with typical ratios consistent with hospital standards; blood sugars can be taken by nursing staff.
- Respiratory equipment such as CPAP and BiPAP managed by RTs; nurses are not required to titrate drips but need to understand set rates.
- Telemetry monitors (brand: Phillips) are used, and nurses are expected to read and interpret strips.
- Self-scheduling is permitted; units typically rotate weekend shifts every other week and include holiday rotations.
- Travelers are expected to float within designated units and report to the clinical coordinator for assignments, most likely to tele units with basic patient care needs.
- Dress code: Royal Blue scrubs.
- Orientation consists of 1-2 shifts with a preceptor.
