Job Summary
Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) Nurse in Madison, Wisconsin. This position involves providing specialized care for critically ill pediatric patients in a Level One Pediatric Trauma Center and Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The role requires acute care experience and proficiency in pediatric critical care practices.

Job Details

  • Certification, Education, Degree, Location, and Experience Requirements: RN license, BLS, PALS, minimum 2 years of acute care experience within the last three years in a pediatric intensive care setting.
  • Schedule: Night shifts, 12-hour shifts from 7:00pm to 7:30am, Monday through Friday, with every other weekend and holiday rotation, totaling at least 36 hours per week.
  • Responsibilities include monitoring pediatric and neonatal patients, managing ventilators and intravenous lines, administering medications including blood products and anti-seizure medications, interpreting cardiac rhythms, and providing comprehensive bedside critical care.
  • Required skills include End-Tidal Carbon Dioxide monitoring, arterial line management, patient airway management, and proficiency with Epic electronic medical record system.
  • Certification requirements for the role include BLS, PALS, and passing a telemetry interpretation exam.
  • Additional clinical tasks involve use of specialized equipment such as external ventricular drains, managing Hickman and PICC lines, and applying infection control precautions.
  • Applicants must have at least two years of recent inpatient acute care experience in the specified pediatric specialty.
  • Certification testing has strict passing criteria, with up to three attempts allowed. A telemetry exam specifically tests identification of lethal rhythms and arrhythmias.
  • Candidates must be willing to float to general pediatric units as needed.
