Registered Nurse / Step Down Unit

Job Summary
Step Down Unit Registered Nurse (RN) position is located at a healthcare organizations skilled nursing unit. The role involves providing specialized care for cardiac and neuro patients on nights, with a focus on post-procedure monitoring, arrhythmia management, stroke care, and critical assessments. The RN will be part of an experienced team delivering quality patient care in a fast-paced environment.

Job Details

• Schedule: Night shifts, 12 hours per shift, minimum of 36 hours per week, starting 11/02/2026 and ending 01/31/2027.
• Required Qualifications: Current active compact license, American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS), American Heart Association Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification, 2 years of RN experience, 1 full year in a step-down unit, prior travel assignment, trauma level II experience, recent Electronic Patient Record (EPIC) charting experience, and proficiency in tele/12-lead EKG interpretation (passing tele tests required).
• Preferred Qualifications: Experience with post heart cath care including femoral access and remote bands, initiating/titrating drips (e.g., Cardizem, Amio, Cardene, Nitro, Insulin, Heparin), sepsis care, use of chest tubes, CPAP/Optiflow, PIV insertion, and neuro assessments such as NIHSS and dysphagia screening.
• Float: First to float within skillset; potential to float to Deaconess Henderson (KY) campus. Cross campus float may occur with 2-hour notice; mid-shift float within the same campus is also possible.
• Additional Information: The unit comprises 22 beds with a nurse-to-patient ratio of approximately 1:3-4. The unit has excellent leadership with a manager with over 10 years of experience and low turnover. Access to navy blue scrubs (no competing logos). Must be able to handle change resiliently, demonstrate strong assessment and critical thinking skills, and work hard in a dynamic setting.
• Holiday & On-Call: Every other holiday; three weekends out of six weeks. No on-call requirement.
