Registered Nurse / Step Down Unit

Job Summary:
Step Down Unit Registered Nurse (RN) position is located in a healthcare facility offering care for medical, neuro, neuro-surgical, general, trauma, and surgical patients. This role involves providing specialized nursing care to patients with a wide range of conditions, including respiratory, cardiac, surgical, and critical care needs, in a busy acute care environment. It is suitable for RNs with ICU or intermediate (stepdown) experience.

Job Details:

• Shift: Nights, 12-hour shifts, with a minimum of 36 hours per week.
• Start Date: 09/28/2026
• End Date: 01/11/2027
• Required Qualifications: BLS certification (American Heart Association required); ACLS recommended; active Illinois license or confirmation that application process has been initiated; one year of relevant RN experience; must have ICU or intermediate (stepdown) nursing experience with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 3:1 or 2:1; experience with trach and ventilator patients; ability to titrate certain drips such as Cardene, Cardizem, Amio, Dobutamine, Heparin, and vasopressors; minimum 1 year RN experience.
• Preferred Qualifications: None specified.
• Float: Float rotation may be required; travel RNs are first to float and may go to ICU if extensive ICU experience is confirmed, otherwise to other stepdown or general medical units.
• Duties: Provide direct nursing care for a diverse patient population including neuro, surgical, trauma, and medical patients; manage drips and titrations; monitor patient status with bedside monitors; collaborate with charge nurses, house supervisor, and patient care techs; document patient data in EPIC electronic charting system.
• Department Notes: The unit consists of 21 beds (9 private), with patient ratios of 3:1; team includes nurse assistants and bedside monitors.
• Dress Code: Any color scrubs.
• Orientation: 1 day for EPIC training, 1 day for unit orientation with educator, 1 day on the floor with an RN.
• Schedule: Night shifts, 12 hours (07:00 PM 07:30 AM or 07:00 PM 07:30 AM), with possible weekend and holiday rotations.
• Additional: No on-call or standby requirements; first float priority; may be assigned to ICU if ICU experience is documented.
