Job Summary:
Medical Surgical Floor Nurse located in an acute care setting, providing high-quality care to a diverse patient population. This role involves managing patients with common diagnoses such as ESRD, AKI, dialysis patients, post-op surgeries, and transplantation cases. The position features a 12-hour daytime shift, with flexible scheduling options and a focus on teamwork and dependability.
Job Details:
- Schedule: 12-hour days, 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM, minimum of 36 hours per week.
- Required Qualifications: Valid Illinois Registered Nurse (RN) license, Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, and a minimum of 1 year of clinical experience in a medical-surgical or general medicine setting.
- Preferred Qualifications: Nephrology or urology background.
- Unit details: 21 beds, mostly private rooms, overhead lift equipment in all rooms. Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4-5 during days and 1:5-6 during nights.
- Duties: Providing patient care, vital signs, baths, activity management; administering inhalers; operating and troubleshooting respiratory equipment if needed; performing accu-cheks; managing Foley catheters and CBI.
- Staffing: Charge nurse available 24/7, with staff nurses typically not taking assigned patients. Two Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) per shift handle vital signs, baths, Foley care, and accu-cheks.
- Support resources: Respiratory therapists available for assistance and treatments; telemetries monitored by external provider, with nurses receiving rhythm alerts via pages.
- Floats & remote assignments: Occasionally float to other general medical units; infrequent opportunities for float as a sitter or in ED or ICU.
- Dress code: Any color scrubs; no artificial or gel nails, chipped polish, visible tattoos, or piercings. Females may wear one pair of simple earrings.
- Orientation: 3 days with a preceptor to ensure smooth integration into the unit.

- Additional notes: No call shifts; weekend and holiday rotations are required on a flexible basis; self-scheduling and supervisor collaboration encouraged.
