Registered Nurse / Step Down Unit

Job Description

Job Summary:
Registered Nurse (RN) specialization in Step Down Unit staffing a 30-bed unit in a critical care environment. This role involves managing patients with complex conditions including respiratory failure, sepsis, cardiac events such as NSTEMI and STEMI, and postoperative care, including CABG, AVR, MVR, AAA repair, lobectomy, and carotid endarterectomy (CEA). The position requires stability in GTT (glucose tolerance test) management, and experience with high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC), BiPAP, and ventilator management within a fast-paced, float-capable setting.

Job Details:

  • Schedule: Days shift, 12-hour shifts, minimum of 36 hours per week.
  • Required Qualifications: Valid nursing license in the state of practice, at least 2 years of experience in a step-down or critical care setting, certification or experience with high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC), BiPAP, and GTT management; experience with post-operative cardiac surgery (CABG, AVR, MVR), vascular procedures, and management of patients with acute coronary syndromes (NSTEMI, STEMI, ACS).
  • Preferred Qualifications: Prior experience in a step-down or intermediate care setting, familiarity with postoperative and vascular patient care, focus on patients with respiratory and hemodynamic instability.
  • Additional Information: This position involves care management for patients with conditions including sepsis, gastrointestinal bleeding (GIB), diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), respiratory failure, and post-operative cardiac patients. Candidates must demonstrate strong clinical skills and the ability to adapt to a dynamic critical care environment. Submission requires an Ascension profile, professional licenses, verification of license/certification, and two professional references.
