Registered Nurse / Intensive Care Unit

Job Summary:
Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Registered Nurse (RN) position located in a hospital setting. This role involves providing critical care to trauma, neuro-stroke, head injury, ventriculostomy, and ICP monitoring patients. The nurse will work primarily night shifts in a fast-paced, interdisciplinary environment requiring strong clinical skills and teamwork. Candidates must be prepared to work hard and adapt to a dynamic unit.

Job Details:

  • Schedule: 12-hour night shifts, approximately 36 hours per week, with every other weekend requirement.
  • Required Qualifications: Valid licensure as a registered nurse, BLS (Basic Life Support) certification, ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification, COVID vaccine, and a minimum of 2 years of ICU experience. Experience with ICP monitoring, ventriculostomy, trauma care, neuro-strokes, and post-TPA patients is required. Candidates must have 2-3 years in ICU, previous travel experience preferred; candidates with less experience must have excellent prior experience at large, fast-paced facilities.
  • Preferred Qualifications: PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification is preferred; NIHSSS is required.
  • Additional Information:
    • The position involves working in a unit with a 30-bed capacity, with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:1-2.
    • A charge nurse and house supervisor are on duty 24/7; the charge nurse does not take assignments.
    • An intensivist is on-site 24/7, along with RT (Respiratory Therapist) support with equipment such as vents, Cpap, BiPap, etc.
    • GE brand monitors are used; RNs are expected to interpret strips.
    • The unit has a robust interventional radiology program and is traveler-friendly.
    • Orientation includes at least one day on the unit, with potential for additional training.
    • The hospital can cancel up to four shifts per 13-week assignment or three shifts for shorter assignments.
