Registered Nurse / Post Anesthesia Care Unit

Job Summary:
Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) nurse position in a healthcare facility. This role involves providing recovery care for a variety of surgical patients, with a focus on orthopedic, gynecological, spinal, and cardiovascular cases. The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring and caring for post-anesthesia patients, managing ventilation equipment, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe patient recovery.

Job Details:

  • Schedule: 12-hour day shifts, starting between 8:30 and 9:00 AM, on an every-other-weekend basis, with first staff to float if needed.
  • Required Qualifications: Active ACLS, BLS, and PALS certifications; minimum of 2 years of recovery or Intensive Care Unit (ICU) experience.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Certification as a Certified Post Anesthesia Nurse (CPAN) or Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN); experience working with Ventilators, ICP monitors, and in pediatric recovery (from day of birth).
  • Float: Not required but candidates should be able to function across phases 2 and discharge patients to their homes, including knowledge of post-care instructions.
  • Additional Information:
    • Unit has 15 beds, including Phase 1 and Phase 2 recovery; candidates should be familiar with both phases.
    • Certified in BLS, ACLS, and PALS; preferred CPAN or CCRN.
    • Experience with GE Spacelabs telemetry, ABGs, vents, ICP monitors, and pediatric recovery.
    • Will be responsible for troubleshooting vents and working with hospitalist or intensivist staff in-house 24/7.
    • Orientation will include three shifts focusing on charting, patient care, critical patient recovery, and use of surginet charting system.
    • Typical cases include joint replacements, hysterectomies, spinal surgeries, AV fistulas, brain tumor excisions, and elective cardioversions.
    • The team may recover ICU patients either in PACU or ICU, depending on patient needs.
    • The facility can cancel up to four shifts within a 13-week assignment period.
