Registered Nurse / Progressive Care Unit

Job Summary:
Progressive Care Unit (PCU) nurse opportunity available in an organization located in Overland Park. This position involves providing specialized care for patients with moderate physiologic instability, such as COPD exacerbations, pneumonia, CHF, and trach patients. The role requires collaborating with a team, maintaining patient safety, and adhering to unit standards.

Job Details:

  • Certification requirements: ACLS, BLS, NIH (National Institutes of Health) Stroke Scale
  • Education, Certification, and Experience: No minimum experience required, appropriate healthcare professional with current certifications in ACLS, BLS, and NIH
  • Schedule: Night shifts, 12-hour shifts, with a minimum of 36 hours per week
  • Unit specifics: 18-bed unit with patient ratios of 1:4-5, leveraging equipment such as Alaris pumps, kangaroo pumps, Pxysis, and computers available in every room.
  • Staffing: Use of 2 patient care technicians and 1 unit secretary, with self-scheduling that includes 3 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule.
  • Patient care responsibilities: Oxygen therapy (nasal cannula, BIPAP/CPAP up to 80%, AirVo low flow), vital signs every 4 hours, continuous cardiac monitoring, blood glucose, and neurological assessments as needed.
  • Floating policy: Float may be required for travelers, PRN staff, or on specific occasions.
  • Additional information: Focus on team collaboration, patient respect, and integration of new equipment/technology.
