Registered Nurse / Post Anesthesia Care Unit

Job Summary:
Critical Care Nurse specializing in Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) located in a Level I Trauma Center. This night shift position involves caring for a diverse patient population undergoing major surgeries, including neurosurgery, ENT, plastics, orthopedics, and more. The role requires high acuity inpatient PACU experience, including managing artificial airways, invasive monitoring, transfusions, and vasoactive drugs, with responsibilities extending to pre-operative patient workup.

Job Details:

  • Schedule: Night shifts, 12 hours per shift, minimum of 36 hours per week
  • Required Qualifications: Certifications in BLS and ACLS; 2 years of critical care or PACU experience; experience with invasive monitoring including ICP, blood product administration, and ventilated patient care; current licensure or pending license acceptance; qualified to work within a Level I Trauma Center setting
  • Preferred Qualifications: CCRN certification; previous experience in high acuity inpatient PACU or ICU environments; trauma level I experience; skill in using Epic charting system and managing complex post-operative patients
  • Float: Float rotation may be required within scope, specifically to PACU or Pre-Operative units
  • Open to accommodating block schedule: No
  • Ground Rules: No local candidates within 75 miles; pending license accepted; maximum of 7 days RTO (Request to Return to Office) policy; must meet all compliance deadlines
  • Additional Information: Night shift nurses expected to pre-op patients for first cases from 0530-0730 when no patients are in PACU; unit is open 24/7 with 38 patient bays; critical care experience required, as some patients need artificial airways, invasive monitoring, and vasoactive drugs. No open-heart surgeries or liver transplants recovered. Most patients are post-surgical, including trauma cases with high acuity needs.
