Job Summary:
Registered Nurse (RN) specializing in Step Down Unit care is sought for a hospital in Omaha, Nebraska. This role involves providing high-level patient care in an acute care setting, supporting adult patients in a 12-hour night shift schedule. The position emphasizes teamwork, patient respect, and compassionate care across a diverse patient population.
Job Details:
- Schedule: 12-hour night shifts, 48 hours per week, starting on 08/31/2026.
- Required Qualifications: Valid nursing license; minimum of 2 years of clinical experience; experience in step down and/or ICU units preferred but not mandatory; could be recent graduate with strong clinical background.
- Certifications: BLS (American Heart Association) and ACLS required.
- Experience Requirements: 2 years of nursing experience; open to first-time travelers with appropriate clinical skills.
- Charge Nurse Experience: Not explicitly required.
- Float: Float to other medical/surgical and step down units may be required; float assignments will remain within same level of care.
- Orientation: Two days of unit-specific orientation provided.
- Drips & Skills: Ability to titrate insulin, Cardizem, and manage common drips including chemotherapy, Heparin, and Protonix; comfortable with titratable medications.
- Respiratory Equipment: High-flow oxygen therapy, BiPAP, ventilators may be encountered on this unit.
- Equipment: Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system is Epic; IV pumps include Alaris; additional equipment such as Lyko lifts in even-numbered rooms.
- Support Staff: Nursing assistants, charge nurse, physical/occupational therapists, case managers, social workers, educators, and dietitians are available to support patient care.
- Patient Experience: Focus on hourly rounds and bedside shift reporting, with an emphasis on respectful, compassionate patient interactions.
- Team Culture: Care centered on genuine concern for patients, positive attitude, and teamwork in a diverse environment.
- Additional Notes: Candidates must have a valid drivers license and be within 50 miles of the facility; artificial nails are prohibited in patient care areas; experience in oncology preferred but not required.
- Licensing: License to submit is required; BSN is not mandatory.
- Trauma Level: Level 1.
- Care Setting: Acute care.
