Registered Nurse / Step Down Unit

Job Summary:
The organization is seeking experienced Step Down Unit Registered Nurses (RN) for a 13-week contract in Henderson, Kentucky. This position involves working in a fast-paced stepdown/telemetry environment, providing care to patients with complex needs, including those on various drips and managing multiple medical conditions. The role requires strong assessment and critical thinking skills, with an emphasis on teamwork and resilience.
Job Details:
- Schedule: Days shift, 12-hour shifts, minimum of 36 hours per week
- Required Qualifications: Active compact RN license, AHA Basic Life Support (BLS), AHA Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), NIHSS certification, minimum of 2 years of RN experience including at least one year in a stepdown or Progressive Care Unit (PCU), recent EPIC charting experience, at least one travel assignment completed
- Required Skills: Tele interpretation (travelers must pass tele tests), initiating and titrating insulin, heparin, and cardiac drips
- Preferred Skills: PIV insertion, management of stable home vents, chest tube and indwelling drain management, CBI, stable drips (Lasix, Protonix), blood product administration, continuous BiPap, drain management, neutropenic precautions
- Float Requirements: First to float within skill set; potential float to neighboring campuses (up to 11 miles) with 2 hours notice; mid-shift float within the same campus
- On Call/Call Back: Not required
- Weekend/Holiday Rotation: Every third weekend; every other holiday
- Patient Population: Stepdown/PCU patients including those on drips, managing conditions such as sepsis, CHF, COPD, DKA, cirrhosis, dementia, surgical urology, abdominal, and orthopedic cases
- Unit Information: 10-bed stepdown unit, ratios vary from 1:4-6 depending on shift; seasoned staff with excellent team retention; smaller facility fostering team cohesion
- Scrub Colors: Navy blue scrubs, no competing logos
- Additional Notes: Potential precepting of students and new hires; COVID-19 vaccination not required (subject to change); GSA hours are not guaranteed during orientation; guaranteed set hours per week outside of holidays
