Job Description
Job Summary:
The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for cleaning, processing, and sterilization of surgical instrumentation, patient care equipment, and re-usable medical/surgical items. This role also functions as a Case Cart Attendant for the operating room, ensuring all instruments and supplies are properly prepared and available for surgical procedures.
Job Details:
- Includes a schedule of 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM, five days a week, with shifts totaling 8 hours per day, and a minimum of 40 hours per week.
- Requires a minimum of 5 years of experience in instrument processing or completion of a Central Processing Course.
- Candidates must hold a national certification such as CRCST or CBSPDT.
- Education requirement: high school diploma or equivalent.
- Skill sets include surgical instrumentation handling, instrument processing, knowledge of detergents and disinfectants, sterilization, and patient care equipment handling.
- Additional skills include universal precautions, proper use of personal protective equipment, operation of sterilizers (steam, ETO, Sterrad, Steris), biological testing, sterilization recordkeeping, use of computerized instrument count sheets, case cart preparation, physical stamina for lifting, pushing, standing, Bowie Dick testing, and inventory management.
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs., push and pull 60 lbs., and stand for the duration of the shift.
