Job Summary:
Medical Surgical Nurse in Artesia, New Mexico. This role involves providing high-quality nursing care within a versatile unit that handles a mix of medical and surgical patients. The position requires clinical versatility, including experience with telemetry and understanding of various drips and patient monitoring.

Job Details:

  • Location: Artesia, New Mexico
  • Schedule: Night shifts, 12-hour shifts, minimum of 36 hours per week
  • Required Qualifications: Valid BLS and ACLS certifications; three years of medical-surgical (MS) nursing experience; licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN); willing to work first-time traveler assignments
  • Preferred Qualifications: Experience with telemetry and the ability to read and interpret tele strips; prior step-down or PCU experience; ability to titrate drips such as insulin, amiodarone, and levofed; familiarity with multiple drip protocols; knowledge of electronic charting systems (CPSI or equivalent)
  • Position Responsibilities: Monitoring patient vitals and administering medications including drips; performing ADLs, I/Os, patient transfers and transports; conducting accuChecks; managing respiratory equipment, including continuous bipap/cpap; assisting with patient care activities within a busy hospital environment without ICU facilities on-site
  • Additional Information: The unit has a 26-bed capacity with patient-to-nurse ratios of 3:1 to 5:1, and 1 nurse aid per 8 patients. Nurses may be asked to float to the emergency department for sitter shifts. The orientation includes 1-2 days with a preceptor. Charting is performed using the CPSI system. The hospital is actively developing into a Level IV trauma center. Shift hours are 7 PM to 7 AM; flexibility in scheduling is appreciated. Every other weekend and potential holiday rotations are required.
  • Certifications & Experience: ACLS and BLS are required, with a minimum of 3 years of nursing experience on MS or Telemetry units.
  • Other notes: The unit is prepared with all respiratory therapy equipment and operates in a 24/7 environment with in-house respiratory staff. The start date for this assignment is scheduled for 08/24/2026.
