Registered Nurse / Step Down Unit

Job Summary:
A Step Down Unit Nurse is needed at a healthcare facility in Grand Island, Nebraska. This position involves providing care to patients with complex medical issues, including sepsis, stroke, CHF, and renal failure, among others. The role requires collaborating with a team to manage acute patient needs while ensuring high-quality bedside care.

Job Details:

  • Schedule: Nights shift, 12-hour shifts, with a minimum of 36 hours per week, starting on 08/31/2026.
  • Required Qualifications: Valid nursing license to submit; minimum of 2 years of nursing experience; certifications including Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS).
  • Preferred Qualifications: Prior experience in a step down or similar high-acuity setting.
  • Float: Float to Medical-Surgical, Inpatient Rehabilitation, or Skilled Care units may be required.
  • Additional Information: This busy patient care environment involves admitting and discharging patients within the same shift and performing shift change activities. Strong teamwork, positive attitude, and commitment to patient experience through bedside report and hourly rounding are key attributes for success. Virtual nursing transitions are planned for June, increasing the nurse-to-patient ratio to 1:6, with each nurse assigned their own Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).

    • unit size: 33 beds with patient ratios of 1:4-5.
    • Common diagnoses include positive patient flow, complex conditions, and titratable infusions such as Heparin and Insulin.
    • Department: Step Down.
    • Telemetry monitors are used, and RNs are required to read and interpret strips.
    • Dress code: Navy Blue.
    • Orientation: First week classroom training followed by two 12-hour shifts on the floor.
    • RTO requests of 7 days or less are accepted upfront; additional RTO requests will not be approved.
