Registered Nurse / Progressive Care Unit

Job Description

Job Summary:
Progressive Care Unit (PCU) registered nurse position located in Des Moines, Iowa. The role involves providing specialized nursing care for patients with diverse needs, including heavy neuro trauma, neurosurgery, craniectomy, and orthopedic cases. The RN will float across multiple campuses and work a 12-hour day shift within a busy hospital setting.

Job Details:

  • Schedule: 12-hour day shifts, minimum of 36 hours per week.
  • Required Qualifications: Valid Iowa registered nurse license or compact/multistate license, active American Heart Association (AHA) or ARC/Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications, 24 months of recent Medical Surgical, IMCU, Stepdown, or Progressive Care experience, EKG/telemetry experience, no first-time travelers, must have completed at least one travel assignment within the last 12 months, de-escalation certificate (preferred: CPI, MOAB, MAB or SAMA), trauma level I experience (highly preferred), familiarity with specialty equipment such as telemetry, chest tubes, and Airvo, valid drivers license, and must provide professional references within 24 months.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Trauma level I experience, NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification (preferred), de-escalation certificate (preferred).
  • Additional Information: Orientation scheduled to begin on 08/17/2026 (priority) and 08/31/2026. The assignment requires staffing during upcoming summer holidays unless the unit is closed. The position involves working with patients requiring drips such as Heparin and PCA`s, and caring for neuro, orthopedic, and trauma patients.
