Registered Nurse / Recovery Room Pediatrics

Job Description

Job Summary
Pediatric Registered Nurse (RN) specializing in Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) at a major healthcare organization in Norfolk, VA. This position involves providing high-quality recovery care for various pediatric patients including those undergoing extensive procedures such as cardiac caths, spinal fusions, and other complex surgeries. The RN will support airway management, assessment, medication administration, and discharge teaching in a dynamic PACU environment with rotating shifts.

Job Details

  • Schedule: Rotating shift with 8-hour shifts, minimum of 40 hours per week.
  • Required Qualifications: Valid nursing license, Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification, 1 year of experience in pediatric recovery or related area, and current authorization to work in the United States.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Certified Post-Anesthesia Nurse (CPAN) credential, recent experience in a pediatric recovery setting, and familiarity with airway management and critical care protocols.
  • Additional Information: Responsibilities include monitoring pediatric patients post-procedure, managing airways, scoring using the Modified Aldrete Score, assessing vital signs, and providing discharge education. This role may involve managing patients with arterial lines, tracheostomies, chest tubes, and home vents. The RN will work closely with anesthesiologists and surgeons to ensure smooth patient transitions from recovery to discharge.
