Operating Room Tech / Surgical Technician/Operating Rm Tech

Job Summary:
The Johnson City, New York, healthcare organization is seeking a Surgical Technician or Operating Room Technician to join their surgical team. This role involves observing and practicing sterile techniques, assisting surgeons during procedures, and maintaining an organized and safe operating environment. The technician will actively participate in patient care and safety, ensuring proper handling of instruments and supplies throughout surgical cases.

Job Details:

• Schedule: 10-hour shifts, Monday through Thursday, with a minimum of 40 hours per week. One weekend shift every four weeks (Saturday and Sunday). On weekends, the schedule will be blocked around the weekend dates. Additionally, 1 to 2 shifts per week from 11:30 pm to 7:00 am, with call after scheduled weekend shifts.
• Required Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent; Certification from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST); Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from AHA, HSI, or American Red Cross; no minimum years of experience required.
• Preferred Qualifications: Previous operating room experience, particularly in neurosurgery and spinal work; experience with craniotomies for tumor, aneurysm, or bleed; spinal fusion procedures for cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine; familiarity with Stealth navigation system and Medtronic implants.
• Additional Information: The role requires active participation in surgical procedures, assisting with gowning, gloving, draping, passing instruments, and maintaining proper counts during surgeries. The technician will handle specimens, ensure the operating room is prepared according to preference cards, and expedite turnover times. The position involves taking rotating call duty following weekend shifts.
