Job Summary
Emergency Room Nurse in Illinois The organization is seeking an experienced ER nurse to provide compassionate emergency care in a busy community hospital setting. This role involves managing a diverse patient population, from neonates to geriatrics, with a variety of diagnoses. The nurse will be responsible for delivering high-quality care while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team in a fast-paced environment.
Job Details
- Location: Freeport, Illinois
- Shift: Days, 8-hour shifts starting between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.
- Schedule: 40 hours per week, with every other weekend and holiday rotation
- Start Date: August 10, 2026
- Required Qualifications: Certifications including BLS, ACLS, PALS or ENPC, TNCC or TNS, NIHSS; Illinois license required; 3+ years of ER experience; moderate sedation experience; experience with lumbar puncture; ability to manage critical care drips; flexibility to rotate start times
- Preferred Qualifications: Experience with emergency procedures such as lumbar puncture and moderate sedation; experience with critical care drips and trauma care
- Responsibilities: Provide emergency care to a diverse patient population, including neonatal to geriatric patients; manage critical care drips; perform blood draws and assist with wound care; handle patient transport and room stocking; collaborate with physicians and mid-level providers; monitor patients using ED monitors; perform imaging transports; utilize EMR system MEDITECH; assist with triage, patient care, and logistical support
- Support Staff: Certified nursing assistants (CNA), EMTs, paramedics, and technicians handle patient transport, vitals, and room preparation; RT staff available 24/7 for respiratory therapy needs; monitor techs required for continuous patient monitoring
- Additional Details: The department includes 24 beds, a triage area, and four behavioral health safe rooms. Security is available 24/7. Staff is expected to be flexible across all shifts with potential to float to other units if experienced. Orientation includes two 12-hour shifts with hospital HR procedures.
