Registered Nurse / Step Down Unit

Job Summary:
The healthcare provider is seeking an experienced registered nurse (RN) for a Step Down Unit in Morgantown, West Virginia. This role primarily involves night shifts on a 29-bed unit currently under construction, serving both floor and step-down patients with diverse medical diagnoses. The position requires the ability to manage patient loads of six in medical-surgical care and three in step-down care, with a focus on patient safety and clinical competence.

Job Details:

• Position: Registered Nurse (RN) Step Down Unit
• Location: Morgantown, WV
• Shift: Nights, 12-hour shifts, with a minimum of 36 hours per week
• Start Date: 08/24/2026
• Required Qualifications: Valid RN license; BLS (AHA) certification; minimum of 1 year of nursing experience; Epic electronic health record system experience; able to handle a patient census of 6 (medical-surgical) or 3 (step-down).
• Schedule: Night shifts, weekends and holidays as scheduled; floating to other floors or step-down units when needed; self-scheduling preferred but not guaranteed.
• Patient Care: Management of patients with various diagnoses, including titrating drips such as heparin, insulin, anti-hypertensives, antiarrhythmics, phenobarbitol, ketamine, PCA medications, and TPN.
• Unit Equipment: Use of CPAP, BiPAP, high-flow oxygen, vents, with vents managed in ICU if settings need adjustment.
• Staffing: RNs will coordinate with charge nurses and house supervisors; team includes clinical associates (nurse aides) with a ratio of 1:10 when fully staffed.
• Additional: Telemetry surveillance via Phillips equipment; RNs do not read strips independently; first to float or be pulled to other units or floors.
