Job Summary:
Medical Surgical with Telemetry Specialist position available in West Virginia. This role involves caring for cardiac patients, post-procedure, and respiratory failure cases, with responsibilities including managing titratable drips and operating telemetry monitors. The position offers 12-hour night shifts and is suitable for candidates seeking a flexible teleunit assignment.

Job Details:

  • Schedule: 12-hour night shifts from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM, minimum of 36 hours per week.
  • Required Qualifications: Valid BLS and ACLS certifications; no minimum years of experience required; location in West Virginia.
  • Patient Population and Unit Details: 29-bed unit specializing in cardiac and step-down care; patients with diagnoses such as AMI, post-PCI, respiratory failure, post-op lung surgeries, and pacemakers.
  • Nursing Ratios: 1:5-6 nurse to patient ratio.
  • Experience or `Must have` Skills: Ability to titrate intravenous drips including heparin, insulin, nitro, dopamine, dobutamine, amiodarone, and others.
  • Charge Nurse/House Supervisor: Charge nurse available 24/7; night shift takes patient assignments.
  • Nursing Aids: Yes, typically 1 CNA for every 12 patients; CNAs can assist with blood sugar checks.
  • Respiratory Equipment: CPAP and BiPAP machines managed by RT; nurses do not manage respiratory devices directly.
  • Telemetry and Monitoring: Philips monitors; RNs must read and interpret telemetry strips.
  • Shift & Scheduling: 12-hour shifts, with schedule made 4 or 6 weeks in advance; self-scheduling is permitted.
  • Weekend & Holiday Requirements: Every-other-weekend schedule; work scheduled into holiday rotations.
  • Floating: Staff may float to med-surg units; ratios are capped at 1:4 when floating to lower acuity units.
  • Dress Code: Royal Blue scrubs.
  • Orientation: Typically includes a few shifts of department-specific orientation with a preceptor.
  • Additional Notes: Unit features include phone and email communication; orientation details provided.
  • Other Requirements: BSN not required; license to submit is necessary.
