Registered Nurse / Medical Surgical With Telemetry

Job Summary:
Medical Surgical with Telemetry nurses are needed for a facility located in West Virginia. This role involves providing care to cardiac and post-operative patients in a stepdown setting. The shift is overnight, and the position requires the ability to manage telemetry monitoring and titrate various drips as needed.

Job Details:

• Shift: 12-hour nights, with a minimum of 36 hours per week
• Required Qualifications: Valid BLS and ACLS certifications; candidate must have at least 2 years of experience as a registered nurse in a cardiac/telemetry environment
• Patient Population: Cardiac patients, post-catheterization, after acute myocardial infarction, post lung surgery, respiratory failure, chest tubes, pacemakers, post PCI, without sheaths or arterial lines
• Nursing Ratios: 1:5-6 on the unit
• Drip Management: Must be able to titrate drips such as Heparin, Insulin, Nitro, and other cardiac medications; occasional titration of cardiac gtts including Amiodarone, Diltiazem, Dopamine, and Heparin
• Charge Nurse/House Supervisor: A charge nurse is available 24/7 and does not take patient assignments during night shifts; a house supervisor is in-house continuously
• Nurse Aides: Approximately 1 CNA per 12 patients; CNAs perform duties including blood sugar checks and basic care
• Respiratory Equipment: RTs manage BiPap, Cpap, vents, and trachs; nurses are not expected to manage respiratory equipment
• Telemetry Monitoring: Phillips monitors; RNs are required to read and interpret ECG strips and manage telemetry systems
• Scheduling: 12-hour shifts from 7 pm to 7 am; schedule is made 4 to 6 weeks in advance; self-scheduling is not utilized
• Weekend and Holiday Requirements: Every-other-weekend participation; work schedule includes Saturday/Sunday shifts; holiday work is included in rotation
• Floating: Staff may float to Med-Surg units; ratios are capped at 1:4 when floating to lower acuity units
• Dress Code: RNs and CNAs wear designated scrubs, with RN scrubs in royal blue
• Orientation: Travelers receive training over several shifts with a preceptor
• Additional Notes: The unit utilizes phone and email communication, with a focus on phone implementation; orientation and notes are coordinated through specific staff contacts.
