Job Summary:
The ICU (Intensive Care Unit) nurse position is based in a major medical and neuro-medicine overflow unit. The role involves providing specialized critical care for adult and geriatric patients with complex diagnoses including respiratory failure, ARDS, acute chest pain, arrhythmias, stroke, cardiac arrest, multi-organ failure, and sepsis. The position requires strong cardiac knowledge and the ability to handle high-acuity cases within a busy ICU environment.
Job Details:
- Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
- Position: Registered Nurse (ICU) Intensive Care Unit
- Shift Schedule: Nights, 12 hours shifts, minimum of 36 hours per week
- Start Date: 08/17/2026
- Experience & Qualifications: 0 years of experience required. Certifications include BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, CPI.
- Required Skills & Certifications:
- Managing and accessing ports
- Arterial line management
- Assist with chest tube insertion/removal
- BiPAP/CPAP management
- Blood product administration
- Care of ventilated patients
- Central line care and management
- Management of dysrhythmias
- Interpretation of arterial blood gases (ABGs) and dysrhythmias
- Use of PPE and infection prevention protocols
- Management of multisystem organ dysfunction/failure
- Performing phlebotomy and wound care
- Operating advanced ventilators and monitoring invasive hemodynamic data
- Float: Will float within service line to ICU units as needed
- Open to accommodating block schedule: No
- Additional information:
- On-call required: No
- Pending license accepted: Yes
- RTO restrictions: No more than 7 days of time off
- Special procedures/equipment include CRRT/dialysis, ventilators, BIPAP, invasive monitoring, defibrillator, and crash cart
- The unit has interdisciplinary support including respiratory therapy, radiology, pharmacy, and social services.
- Staffed beds: 21
- Patient diagnosis specialties: Respiratory failure/ARDS, cardiac, stroke, multi-organ failure, sepsis.
- Shift details confirmed as nights, with staffing ratios of 1.5 patients per nurse.
