Job Summary:
Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) Open Heart Nurse in Charlotte, North Carolina. This role involves providing specialized care for high-acuity pediatric patients with congenital heart differences, post-surgical needs, and those requiring advanced devices such as ECMO, Impella, and renal replacement therapies. The position emphasizes collaborative teamwork within a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center and teaching hospital environment.

Job Details:

  • Schedule: Rotating shifts, 12 hours per shift, with a minimum of 36 hours per week.
  • Required Qualifications: Valid licensure, BLS, PALS, and NIHSS certifications; two years of Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit experience in a similar facility; location in the United States; and relevant clinical experience including open heart and transplant patient care.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Experience with devices such as Aquadex (renal replacement therapy), Impella, and ECMO; EPIC experience; float competency to PICU, NICU, and general pediatric units discussed during interview.
  • Other Support within the Department: One healthcare tech per day supporting unit secretary duties and nursing needs; a unit secretary every shift; clinical support staff including resource nurses, RT (Respiratory Therapist), cardiologist, and intensivists available 24/7.
  • Technology/Equipment: EMR system EPIC; Med dispensing Omnicell; Phillips bedside monitors; IV pumps Alaris; no bedside telemetry monitoring tech.
  • Float: Yes, to PICU, NICU, and general pediatrics as needed.
  • Orientation: Two days departmental orientation with facility-specific training.
  • Additional Notes: Scrub color navy; free parking; teamwork-oriented unit culture emphasizing trust and accountability; holiday working is 75% with alternate holiday schedule; call required based on previous schedule; manager approval required for time off; shifts are from 6:45 AM to 6:45 PM and 6:45 PM to 6:45 AM every 6 weeks.
