Job Summary:
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Registered Nurse at a healthcare facility in Norfolk, VA. This position involves providing specialized care in a Level IV NICU environment with a 70-bed unit, including both private and shared rooms. The role requires working night shifts on a schedule of 12 hours per shift, with a minimum of 36 hours per week. The NICU cares for critically ill newborns with a variety of diagnoses and procedures, emphasizing high-quality patient care in a dynamic setting.
Job Details:
- Location: Norfolk, VA
- Shift: Nights, 12 hours per shift, with a minimum of 36 hours per week
- Required Qualifications: Valid BLS and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certifications, Ohio State Nursing License or equivalent, Bachelor`s Degree in Nursing or higher, minimum of 3 years of neonatal intensive care experience, working in a facility within the United States
- Preferred Qualifications: Experience with bedside surgeries such as PDA ligation, chest tubes, and Penrose drains; familiarity with Cerner computerized charting system
- Additional Information: The NICU admits infants primarily for prematurity (22-36 weeks), neurological disorders, congenital cardiac lesions, respiratory and renal issues, GI problems, and anomalies such as tracheostomies and GI ostomies. Occasional bedside surgeries are performed. The nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1:2 or 1:3. The role includes floating to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) when needed. Orientation typically lasts 2-3 shifts.
