Registered Nurse / Medical Surgical Floor

Job Summary:
The Medical Surgical (MS) Specialty registered nurse position is located in Hilo, Hawaii. The role involves providing patient care on a general surgical floor, supporting a 34-bed adult surgical unit. The nurse will perform standard registered professional nurse (RPN) duties with a focus on preoperative and postoperative care, including procedures such as abdominal surgeries, mastectomies, thyroidectomies, and management of chest tubes and drains. Candidates must possess Hawaii licensure prior to start and have experience in surgical nursing.
Job Details:
- Schedule: Rotation shifts, with three 12-hour shifts per week, including floating to other units or departments as needed.
- Required Qualifications: Valid Hawaii Nursing License (must be obtained prior to start), BLS and ACLS certifications, at least 2 years of experience as a registered nurse (preferably in surgical pre/postoperative care), and knowledge of surgical procedures such as lap chole, appy, mastectomies, thyroidectomies, chest tubes, and drains.
- Preferred Qualifications: Experience with operating room equipment such as vital signs monitors, IV and PCA pumps, and electronic medical record systems.
- Additional Information: Candidates must be able to arrive the Thursday before the start date to attend an employee health appointment on Friday. The assignment begins on 08/24/2026, and punctuality for onboarding is required. A nurse to patient ratio of 1:5-6 is maintained on this unit. Dress code is regular nursing uniforms.
