Job Summary:
Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Registered Nurse (RN) position located in Shelby, North Carolina. This role involves providing specialized nursing care to patients with a variety of diagnoses, including cardiac, respiratory, neurological, and general illnesses. The position offers an opportunity to work in a family-oriented unit with a focus on patient-centered care during the night shift.

Job Details:

  • Shift: Nights, 12 hours
  • Schedule: Every other weekend rotation; work schedule cycles every 6 weeks
  • Minimum Hours Per Week: 36 hours
  • Start Date: 08/24/2026
  • Required Qualifications: Valid RN licensure, BLS (Basic Life Support), ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support), NIHSS (National Institute of Health Stroke Scale), 18 months of Progressive Care Unit RN experience, and flexibility to accept a first-time traveler.
  • Patient Types/Common Diagnoses: Patients may present with conditions such as congestive heart failure, dysrhythmias, chest pain, stroke, abdominal illnesses, infections, respiratory illnesses, diabetes, acute kidney injury (AKI), chronic kidney disease (CKD), alcohol withdrawal, and intravenous drug abuse (IVDA).
  • Patient Ratios: Most common RN to patient ratio is 1:4; may vary to 1:5 depending on patient acuity.
  • Skills Required: Experience with ventilated patients (tracheostomies), cardiac gtt management, cardiac rhythm interpretation, chest tubes, blood products, wound care, dressing changes, central line management, and IV/Venipuncture Team (VAT) procedures.
  • Support within the Department: CNA support for activities of daily living (ADLs), charge nurse resource, phlebotomy (excluding nurse draw), RT (Respiratory Therapy) team available 24/7, hospitalist physicians, intensivist coverage, telemetry monitoring at bedside and nurses` station.
  • Technology/Equipment: EMR system: EPIC; IV Pumps with alarms; Omnicell medication dispensing; Phillips monitors.
  • Floating: Floating to various facilities within region 3, including Cleveland, Kings Mountain, Lincoln, and division locations, as needed, within scope of practice. Floating mid-shift includes paid travel time between facilities.
  • Orientation: 2 days departmental orientation, no orientation provided at the facility.
  • Parking: Free parking provided.
