Job Summary:
Psychiatric Unit Nurse in Louisville, KY. This role involves providing nursing care in a high-acuity psychiatric setting, primarily working with children aged 3-10 with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The position requires managing patient behaviors, implementing de-escalation techniques, and ensuring safety protocols are followed in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Job Details:

  • Schedule: 12-hour shifts, with a minimum of 36 hours per week.
  • Required Qualifications: Valid BLS (Basic Life Support), CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) certification obtained on site, and a minimum of 6 months of experience working with children or adolescents in a behavioral health setting.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Experience managing physical holds, verbal de-escalation skills, and ability to recognize early signs of agitation.
  • Float: Candidates should be comfortable floating to different age groups and units throughout the facility and flexible with scheduling.
  • Additional Information:
    • Bed capacity: 22
    • Patient population includes children ages 3-10 with intellectual and developmental disabilities, ranging from verbal to non-verbal.
    • Patient ratios: typically 2 RNs per unit, 2-3 MHTs (Mental Health Technicians).
    • Must be able to manage multiple escalated patients simultaneously, including physical holds and possibly seclusion or mechanical restraints if necessary.
    • Physical skills required include the ability to transition smoothly between standing, seated, and supine positions for safety during interventions.
    • Support staff includes leadership committed to safety, Behavioral Analysts, Therapists, Case Managers, and security.
    • Technology/equipment includes EMR, restraint chairs (rarely used), and timeouts.
    • Orientation is on-site with a new employee orientation program.
    • No on-call requirement.
    • Schedule includes every third weekend rotation, with holiday shifts scheduled as per facility needs.
    • RTO approval allows up to 5 days.
