Registered Nurse / Telemetry Medical Surgical Float

Job Summary:
The Telemetry Medical Surgical Float nurse position is based in a healthcare facility in Garden City, Kansas. This role involves providing nursing care across multiple units, including general medical-surgical, cardiac, neuro, oncology, renal, and other specialties. The position requires flexibility to float within Zone 4 and adapt to various unit needs during night shifts.

Job Details:

• Schedule: Nights, 12-hour shifts, with a minimum of 48 hours per week.
• Required Qualifications: Certifications in BLS (Basic Life Support), ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) from the American Heart Association, NIHSS certification; 2 years of Telemetry Medical Surgical (TELE MS) experience in the last 3 years; must have at least 0 years of experience listed, with a minimum of 2 years preferred.
• Preferred Qualifications: Prior neuro experience; Alaris and EPIC electronic health record experience.
• Float: Float rotation may be required throughout Zone 4, which covers areas around Garden City, Ulysses, and Dodge City in Kansas. The traveler may be asked to work in ICU (with low acuity holds within skillset), Progressive Care Unit (PCU) / Stepdown, and Medical Surgical Telemetry units.
• Additional Information:
  • The position involves working with adult and geriatric patient populations with diverse diagnoses including cardiac, neuro, oncology, renal, urology, general surgery, gynecology, psychiatric detox, ENT, and general medicine.
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios are typically 1:5-6 based on acuity.
  • The charge nurse generally does not take a patient assignment unless necessary.
  • Nurse aides are available on the unit.
  • Equipment such as vents, Cpap, BiPAP, and tele monitors are used.
  • Shifts may involve occasional weekend and holiday work, with a schedule set 4-6 weeks in advance.
  • The facility utilizes the EPIC charting system.
  • No license to submit required, but a license must be submitted.
  • The initial float assignment will be communicated on or before the first day of work.
  • The hospital can cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment, or 3 shifts for shorter assignments.
