Job Summary:
The specialty Nurse Practitioner (STEP DOWN) position is located in Omaha, Nebraska. This role involves working on a step-down unit delivering care to adult and geriatric patients with diagnoses such as cardiac issues, nephrology conditions, strokes, and diabetes. The position is a night shift with 12-hour hours, focusing on critical patient management and ensuring quality care in a fast-paced environment.

Job Details:

  • Certifications: BLS (American Heart Association), ACLS (American Heart Association), NIHSS; minimum experience required: 2 years; location: Omaha, Nebraska; shift: Nights; schedule: 12 hours per shift, minimum 36 hours per week; start date: 08/31/2026.
  • Required Qualifications: Valid license to submit, certifications: BLS (American Heart Association), ACLS (American Heart Association), NIHSS; minimum 2 years of experience.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Experience in step-down or telemetry units, critical thinking skills, excellent communication, positive attitude, ability to problem-solve, and helping others.
  • Duties include patient assessment, titrating drips (such as Cardizem, beta-blockers, and seizure medications), and collaborating with charge nurses and support staff.
  • Unit features a ratio of 1:4-5 for patient care, with nurse aides and patient care techs available.
  • Float requirements include medical floors, ICU, or rehab settings.
  • The first week involves onboarding and on-floor orientation.
  • Attributes that will help a nurse succeed: positive attitude, good communication skills, critical thinking, and teamwork.
  • RTO (Request for Time Off) must be provided upfront, with no additional approvals after submission.
  • This position requires compliance with policies including no full-time, part-time, or PRN status with affiliated facilities of a specific healthcare system, and adherence to fingernail policies.
  • Other information: The unit has a level 2 trauma designation, charting is through EPIC, and the shift involves a 12-hour night schedule on an acute care setting.
