Job Summary:
The organization is seeking a Neuro Surgical MedSurg Registered Nurse (RN) for a nights shift position at a healthcare facility in Newburgh, Indiana. This role involves caring for neuro and neuro-surgical patients, including those with cerebrovascular accidents, elective back and neck surgeries, post-operative cranial procedures, and cerebral angiograms. The position offers an opportunity to work within a dynamic team at a teaching hospital, providing excellent patient care and engaging in precepting responsibilities as needed.
Job Details:
- Schedule: Night shifts; 12 hours per shift, with a minimum of 36 hours per week.
- Required Qualifications: Current active compact registered nurse license, American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification, NIH Stroke Scale certification, two years of strong neuro nursing experience, one travel assignment preferred, trauma level II experience, recent EPIC charting experience (must complete checkoff class).
- Patient Population: Neuro and neuro-surgical patients, including CVAs, elective back/neck surgeries, post-op cranial procedures, cerebral angiograms, general medical, and psychiatric patients.
- Skillset: NIHSS and dysphagia screening, advanced neuro assessments, basic teleinterpretation, strict I&O management, catheterization and Foley care, titration of heparin infusions, blood and blood product administration, venipuncture, blood cultures, NG tube management, indwelling drain management, and stable medication infusions. Strong assessment and critical thinking skills required.
- Float Requirement: First to float within skill set, including opportunities to float between campuses within specified notice periods. Cross-campus float may occur with a 2-hour notice.
- Additional Information: Unit has 37 beds with nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:5-6 during day shifts and 1:5-7 during nights. The team is well-established with consistent leadership and welcoming staff. No COVID-19 vaccination is currently required.
