Registered Nurse / Operating Room (First Assistant)

Job Summary
The Operating Room (First Assistant) registered nurse (RNFA) position is located in the facility and involves providing surgical first-assist support for congenital cardiac procedures. This highly specialized role requires advanced technical skills and collaboration with the surgical team to ensure optimal patient outcomes. The RNFA works directly under the supervision of the operating surgeon, assisting with procedures on pediatric and adult patients with congenital heart defects.

Job Details

• Schedule: Days shift, 12 hours per day, with a minimum of 36 hours per week
• Required Qualifications: Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in Maine; completion of an accredited RNFA program; CNOR certification (preferred); Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications; 3-5 years of operating room experience with at least 1-2 years in cardiac surgery; travel experience preferred; demonstrated expertise in congenital cardiac surgery highly preferred.
• Preferred Qualifications: Proficiency in first-assist techniques and sterile field management; strong critical thinking and decision-making abilities; excellent interpersonal and communication skills; commitment to patient-centered care and clinical excellence
• Additional Information: The role involves assisting during congenital cardiac surgeries, supporting preoperative assessments, postoperative wound management, and participating in multidisciplinary rounds. Opportunities for mentorship and education of nursing staff on congenital cardiac procedures are included. The position is scheduled to start on 10/19/2026 and end on 01/18/2027.
