Job Summary:
The Maternal Infant Unit Nurse is responsible for providing specialized care on a Mother/Baby Couplet Care unit in a healthcare facility located in Richmond, Virginia. This role involves supporting labor and delivery, postpartum, and nursery patients, ensuring safe and compassionate care for mothers and newborns. The position is suitable for experienced nurses with a focus on labor and delivery and maternal-infant health.

Job Details:

  • Shift: Days, with a schedule of 12 hours per shift and a minimum of 36 hours per week.
  • Required Qualifications: Valid certification in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), and Association of Womens Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) Fetal Monitoring Certification; at least 2 years of labor experience; experience working in a labor, delivery, recovery, and postpartum (LDRP) unit with high birth volumes is preferred.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Experience with high-volume LDRP units and labor experience exceeding 2 years.

    • Number of Positions: 4
    • Unit Information: Maternal Infant Unit comprising 24 beds with a staffing of approximately 71 personnel, including labor nurses, nursery nurses, OB technicians, secretaries, leadership, and educators.
    • Typical Procedures: Vaginal deliveries, cesarean sections, antepartum care, newborn, and postpartum care.
    • Patient Ratios: Labor patients 1:1 most of the time; postpartum and nursery 5-6:1.
    • Equipment: GE fetal monitors.
    • Dress Code: Navy blue scrubs; MIU nurses wear pink badges for infant security.
    • Schedule: Every third weekend with 12 hours of on-call duty per four-week schedule.
  • Additional Information:
    The nurse will be responsible for providing comprehensive care to mothers and infants, supporting routine procedures, and maintaining patient safety and comfort. The role emphasizes teamwork, adherence to clinical protocols, and compassionate patient interaction.
