Registered Nurse / Intensive Care Unit

Job Summary:
Registered Nurse (RN) specializing in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) located in Council Bluffs, Iowa. This position involves providing critical care in a high-acuity environment, working night shifts, and floating to lower levels of care such as Progressive Care Units and Medical-Surgical units. The role requires adherence to specific policies and skills, including managing drips, vents, and bipaps, with a strong emphasis on patient safety and clinical proficiency.

Job Details:

  • Schedule: Nights shift from 6:30 PM to 7:00 AM, with every third weekend work.
  • Required Qualifications: 2 years of ICU experience, ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications. Valid nursing license.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Experience with drips, vents, bipaps, and travel experience.
  • Special Requirements: Candidate must pass a pass/fail exam during orientation with a 90% passing score; artificial nails are prohibited; driver`s license required to verify radius rule.
  • Responsibilities: Care for patients with diagnoses such as sepsis, respiratory failure, stroke, and myocardial infarction. Manage titratable drips including vasopressors and sedation. Float to PCU and MedSurg as needed; no nurse aides on unit.
  • Additional Information: Hospitalist and intensivist available 24/7; RT handles vent adjustments; tele monitor techs read strips; unit orientation includes a 1-shift ICU and 1-shift PCU session.
